Temptation
Sometimes you gotta cover Tom waits
In a lot of ways
Temptation feels like an entity,
a thing that possesses you
it gets inside and transforms you
transforms your body, mind , spirit.
Intellectually you think “I will get it together, I will have self control and discipline”
but when Temptation grabs the wheel
all bets are off.
All the plans to walk the straight and narrow path, to do the difficult thing are just delusions,
and the hardwired habits take control like a demon,
they keep you firmly planted in your rut,
no escape, no traction, just spinning your wheels. . .
Temptation says “ You can get it together tomorrow, today we feast!”
Who are you to argue?
Cravings, addictions, habits, distractions, all these things are bound to make you question the notion of free will.
Temptation sits at the core of every bad decision, the desire to ‘have it now’ rather than delay gratification to build a better you.
It is with those feelings and frustrations in mind that I recorded this cover of Tom Waits’ timeless track “Temptation”.
It has been covered by many artists, but I think I’ve done it in a pretty unique style. If you’re gonna cover Tom Waits, it’s best to make it your own, trying to sound anything like Tom Waits is a fools game.
